Alexandra Gardens
Length 1.6 Km
On the south bank of the Yarra River, the Alexandra Gardens connect to Kings Domain, the Domain parklands and the landscaped Royal Botanic Gardens.
First laid out in 1904, the gardens’ most notable feature is the line of historic rowing boathouses lining the Yarra River.
The gardens’ palm trees, ornamental shrubs and tree-lined avenues merge with the Royal Botanic Gardens, and its star-shaped garden bed is designed to represent the Federation of Australia.
Get in early to nab one of the gardens' riverfront barbecues, popular venues for alfresco office Christmas parties and Moomba celebrations.

Tan Track
Length 3.9 Km
No visit to Melbourne is complete without a walk, jog or run around Melbourne's iconic 'Tan Track', a 3.827km track around the Botanic Gardens.
Commonly and affectionately known locally as the TAN, it is officially termed the Tan Track. The TAN name origins are disputed: a surface of TAN-coloured stone aggregate or, the track is around the boTANic gardens or, it once was covered by TAN bark.
Regarded as Melbourne's most popular running route, The Tan is suitable for runners of all abilities with a gravel track except for the bitumen footpath along Anderson Street.
The Tan was originally constructed in the early 1900's as a tanbark horse-riding track but today is one of Melbourne's most frequented locations. Locals, visitors and famous alike now share the space as its international reputation has grown.
