South road preserve hiking trail
Length 1.6 Km
The trails in this area are set aside as nature preserves to be enjoyed by hikers, families, horseback riders, and nature lovers as well. Once past the small beaver pond and wildflower meadow the walk begins to climb as one enters the woods. There are several paths that veer off. They were logged years ago but the paths are still easily walkable. They are uneven with rocks in spots and grass in spots and pine needles with leaves in other spots. Sturdy shoes with good tread are needed as it can get slippery on the moss covered areas. This path goes on for a couple of miles but we only went in about half a mile. Birds and crickets serenade you as you walk along. Deer droppings are around but we didn’t see any deer. This is a beautiful spot to hike and enjoy the gifts of nature in all the seasons.
Dam at clough
Length 1.6 Km
The dam walkway is flat and paved. The walkway down to the water is a bit steep but walking slowly accomplishes the hike back up the hill.
The dam walkway
Length 2.7 Km
The walk along the bridge to the dam is level and easy right thru to the end with the gazebo and picnic tables. Veering off to the right is a steep downhill. Woods are on the left and it’s uneven and rocky in there. A family walking spot for all with beautiful views of the lake
Clough State Park entrance road
Length 1.3 Km
Paved fairly level road in the beginning. There is a slight downhill to the parking area of a state park that is no longer open as it needs repairs from flooding. There is parking on the outside of the park entrance. Once at the bottom of the hill one can see the swimming area and picnic areas with tables. Tall pines are a familiar scene throughout this park. Thus is an easy walk for all with woods on both sides of the road. Peaceful and quiet in all the seasons.
Back side of the flood zone
Length 1.2 Km
After passing thru the flood zone gate the path is even and strewn with leaves and acorns that have fallen from the oak trees. The path is lined with pines and hardwoods. The end of the path opens onto a field. After crossing the field a small climb brings one a top the dam wall that leads to the marsh and overflow.
