A very quiet route with some rare plants like the juniper.
The heather is beautiful this time of the year
Boshuizerbergen / Geijsteren Estate / Rosmolen
Length 7.1 Km
This is one of my favourite walking routes nearby the place I live, it’s also a historic one.
At the beginning of the route is a parking place where you can park your car. After about 2 km walking through the Forrest is a small lake on your left hand side, you can walk around it by following the route I walked with the pacer gps function.
when you have walked around the lake there is a building named the Rosmolen, build in 1667 it’s a water mill still in use every Friday for making flour. Cross the first bridge and go left, now follow your route by following the river called the Oostrumse beek. When you have crossed the second bridge go left and than right. Walk straight ahead until you see a small Chappell.
This is the Willibrordus Chappel build around 1500. At backside of the Chappell stands a border post. The border post was placed in 1551 to indicate the border between the Land van Cuijk and the Land van Kessel.
Follow the route trough the Forrest by using the gps function in pacer.
After about 1,5 km is a area with some sand dunes the loose sand could be a bit hard for some people, But it’s worth it. There is a lot of flowering heather around this time of year. And there are juniper trees allover the place. The juniper is pretty rare in the Netherlands. Navigating in the dunes is a bit tricky so it’s recommend following the route I walked by using pacers gps function. Follow this route until you’re back at the parking place.
if you're lucky you can spot deers, wild boars, woodpeckers or foxes!
I hope you will enjoy this route as much as I do.
The Singels Venray
Length 5.4 Km
This is the most popular route of the village I live in, Venray. this route is called the singels because the route goes through 4 streets where the name ends in singel. The north, east, south, and west-Singel. At the locals the route is better known as rondje singels.
The route goes through 2 psychiatric terrains for which venray is known. The Saint Anna terrain is no longer in use. In the past nuns nursed psychiatric clients here. The buildings are still there.
The other terrain is the Vincent van Gogh terrain. Today, clients with addiction, depression or other mental illness are cared for here.
With 5.3 kilometers, this is the perfect after dinner route. A lot of locals run or walk this route in the evening after dinner.
Navigating this route is pretty easy:
Start at the roundabout at the intersection of the North and East Singel.
- Head west at this roundabout.
- Go straight at the first 2 roundabouts
- Go left at the 3rd roundabout
- For the next 4 kilometres take the second exits at the following roundabouts and go straight ahead at all intersections until you reach the starting point again.
