Ft. Pickens wall route via FT north terminus
Length 9.5 Km
Some of the best NW Florida hiking has to offer on one short loop. Fantastic bird watching, turtles, dolphins, stingrays and much more. Old Forts, cannons, and beautiful Gulf of Mexico. Start behind Battery Langdon at the start of the bike trail (parking at the picnic area). This happens to be last couple miles of the Florida Trail northern terminus. After the FT northern terminus sign (directly after footbridge) jump onto low wall on right side of trail (trust me) and take immediate right on wall. You should be heading straight north towards the Sound. Stay on wall all the way around the perimeter of Ft. Pickens. Unce the wall turns heading towards the Gulf keep following wall around behind abandoned WWII battery. Right after battery take the side trail that heads to the Gulf. Walk along the shore for about a mileish until you see a trail leading up towards a gaint WWII cannon. Put your shoes back on here as this is where you link back up w pavement for a bit. Take the road from the parking lot behind the cannon to the east all the way around to main park road. Cross straight over into parking area for battery Worth and turn east once you get back to the bike trail you hiked in on. Then it’s straight back to the car from there. The trail does go straight through Ft. Pickens campground where you can fill up water bottles or use restroom. Be aware this is high exposure to intense sun. Bring plenty of water and if trying this route during hottest times of the year be extra cautious and wear proper clothing ect
