Lindo Lake County Park
Length 1.2 Km
Head south through the Lakeside archway sign and check out some of the historical markers and murals along Maine Avenue. Cut east toward Lindo Lake and take a lap around the lake and grassy lakebed. There’s a playground, outdoor exercise area, and skate park along the route. Waterfowl are plentiful throughout the park. There’s no shortage of squirrels either. The route finishes back on Maine close to the start.

Walker Preserve Trail

This very wide and well manicured path follows a section of the San Diego River Trail between Santee and Lakeside. The route is easily accessible from the west or the east and can be combined with other trails that follow the river. This section is friendly to all ability levels and has multiple signs throughout telling about the history of the area and the variety of wildlife to look out for in the wetlands along the river. There are numerous benches and tables along the trail providing ample rest spots and viewpoints.
Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve

Santee Lakes is the perfect place for fishing, birdwatching, camping, or just getting some exercise. Start this route at Lake 5 near the general store. Head north and follow the perimeter road. The path is flat and there’s plenty to see along the way. Pass through the camping areas on the north side of the park and then make your way south toward the day use areas. Check out the park signs for historic info and what kinds of wildlife to keep an eye out for. Birds are everywhere and you can spot fish venturing close to the shore. There are multiple play areas and restrooms along the route. Curl around Lake 1 and head back toward the start.
