This route can be accessed from multiple other trails within Mission Trails Regional Park. I used the Grasslands Crossing Trail as a starting point. The route heads north over a footbridge that crosses a narrow section of the San Diego River. Once across, the Grasslands Loop can easily be followed. The trails are wide and well marked. I took the path west toward the Kumeyaay Grinding Stones and checked out the descriptive sign nearby. A little farther down the path is an overlook to the historic Old Mission Dam below. After taking in the view, I followed the trail to its northern edge and then back south. The route creates a perimeter around swaths of golden grasses native to the area. Before long, I had returned to the Grasslands Crossing Trail and headed back to the start.
