The Moorbank Botanic Garden was a university botanical garden in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It occupied a 3 hectares (7.4 acres) site on Claremont Road to the west of the main Newcastle University campus, and was developed in the 1920s. Moorbank was leased from the Freemen of Newcastle until 2013, when the lease was not renewed and gardens were closed.

The Town Moor is a large area of common land in Newcastle upon Tyne. It covers an area of around 1000 acres or 400ha, and is larger than Hyde Park and Hampstead Heath combined, and also larger than New York City's Central Park (843 acres). Like them it is not on the edge of the city, but has suburbs all around it.

Spital Tongues is a historic area of Newcastle upon Tyne, located north west of the city centre.Its unusual name is believed to be derived from spital – a corruption of the word hospital that is quite commonly found in British place names (for example Spitalfields) - and tongues, meaning outlying pieces of land.

The Hoppings is an annual travelling funfair held on the Town Moor in Newcastle upon Tyne, during the last week in June. It is one of Europe's largest travelling funfairs. In recent years, over the course of the nine days it is held, it regularly attracts around 300,000 visitors. Its forerunner was The Blaydon Races, which was held in Blaydon.
