A perfect short walk with one of the loveliest pubs around at the half way point. Start your walk on peaceful Honey Pot Lane, if you are lucky, you may see some Highland Cattle in the field at Fowlers Farm. Set out at the old disused railway bridge. This walk follows the disused railway line with a short stretch through a pretty street of homes in Cold Norton. The trail then heads down a track and left through footpaths to a horse paddock. Follow the footpath signs across arable land that steadily climbs up to the village of Purleigh in the distance, here you will find the beautiful All Saints church. George Washington’s family has links with the church so do go in and read about this interesting connection! The Bell at Purleigh is one of our all time favourite pubs. Delicious food, and the friendly atmosphere make The Bell a firm favourite for many locals and hikers. Well behaved dogs are welcome! The vistas from the village out across towards Maldon are stunning. One of our all time favourite walks. The views are quite stunning in both directions which makes this “there & back again” hike worth every step! The fields are very muddy in winter so good strong waterproof hiking boots are essential during the wet season!
