Introduction
Kymin Wander is a 1.3 mile (3,000-step) route located near Monmouth, Wales. This route has an elevation gain of about 364.1 ft and is rated as medium. Find the best walking trails near you in Pacer App.
The drive up to the Kymin is challenging, via a steep single track metalled road with passing places, but the view at the top over Monmouth and distant mountains is fantastic. Free parking. The house is not open every day and no facilities are available otherwise. The walk is partially through wooded areas similar to Scowles, there are rocks and tree roots to look out for underfoot and a steep path towards the end. Walking pole/s would help with the steeper sections but not essential if you are sure footed! “With your back to the Round House, looking over Monmouth, turn right and follow the path into Beaulieu Woods. Take the well worn track along the top of the ridge; you will come to a viewpoint with a bench and information board to the left of the path (unfortunately birch trees have grown up and obscured the view). Carry on to the end of the ridge and a few metres before the edge there’s a path to your left downhill. (We weren’t sure we were on the right track as the path was unclear among the rocks but we joined a worn path soon enough). This path joins a wider, vehicular access track, turn left here and follow the track until it opens out into a turning circle. Follow the path ahead of you. This comes out to a way marked path. Turn left and follow the path that ascends very steeply through the woods before emerging once again at the top of the Kymin, close to the round House. There is a flat, grassy area suitable for picnics opposite the Round House
