In the Great Smoky Mountains, climb to the top of the highest point. The views are spectacular!! Clingmans Dome (or Clingman's Dome) is a mountain in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina, in the southeastern United States. At a height of 6,643 feet (2,025 m), it is the highest mountain in Smokies, the highest point in the state of Tennessee and the highest point along the Appalachian Trail of 2,192 miles (3,528 km). It is also the third highest point of the eastern continental part of North America, after the nearby Mount Mitchell (6,684 feet or 2,037 meters) and Mount Craig (6,647 feet or 2,026 meters). I recommend wearing a jacket, the temperature at the top drops considerably. Dogs and bicycles are not allowed, and for wheelchairs the path is too inclined Do not go too early, although the fog is present at any time, noon is (for me) the best time. There are restrooms in the parking lot, and you arrive by Cove Creek Rd.
