This out and back route begins (and ends) with steep switchbacks. The climb provides sweeping views of the El Monte Valley and El Cajon Mountain (El Cap). The trail is narrow and rocky in places. Much of it is overgrown and parts are washed out. Wildlife bristles throughout the route and tracks and scat can be spotted easily. There are a few signs noting the history of the flume that brought water to the area.
