Looking inland there are equally breathtaking views of Croagh Patrick, Ireland’s holy mountain.
During the walk along quiet country lanes with little or no traffic one passes through farmland to the fishermen’s memorial and then on to the small harbour. Continue along the coast road until Murrisk Abbey, a restored well maintained mediaeval ruin. Heading inland one comes to the National Famine Monument at the foot of the ascent to Croagh Patrick. It is here that refreshment can be had in the cafe or the nearby pubs offering excellent food and drink.
It is a pleasant walk in summer with the sun shining.
