Binghamton is a city in, and the county seat of, Broome County, New York, United States. It lies in the state's Southern Tier region near the Pennsylvania border, in a bowl-shaped valley at the confluence of the Susquehanna and Chenango Rivers. Binghamton is the principal city and cultural center of the Binghamton metropolitan area (also known as Greater Binghamton, or historically the Triple Cities), home to a quarter million people.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. EDT, Jiverly Antares Wong (also known as Jiverly Voong), a 41-year-old naturalized American citizen from Vietnam, entered the facility and shot numerous people inside.

The Court Street Bridge is a combined motor vehicle and pedestrian crossing which spans the Chenango River in the New York State city of Binghamton. The bridge carries U.S. Route 11 and connects Court Street and Downtown Binghamton with Main Street and its West Side neighborhood.
