Halberstadt (field)

Halberstadt is a town in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, the capital of Harz district. Located north of the Harz mountain range, it is known for its old town centre that was severely damaged in World War II and rebuilt in the following decades.

The Halberstadt Cathedral or Church of St Stephen and St Sixtus (German: Dom zu Halberstadt) is a Gothic church in Halberstadt in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It was the episcopal see of the Bishopric of Halberstadt, established by Emperor Charlemagne in 804. The present-day church, which replaced an older Romanesque church, was built between 1236 and 1491 in a Gothic style, clearly inspired by the French Gothic cathedrals.

Halberstadt was a district (Kreis) in the middle of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Neighboring districts were (from north clockwise) Bördekreis, Quedlinburg, Wernigerode, Goslar, Wolfenbüttel, Helmstedt.

The Gleimhaus in Halberstadt is one of the oldest literary museums in Germany. It was built in 1862 in the former home of the poet and collector Johann Wilhelm Ludwig Gleim (1719-1803). The half-timbered house lies behind the choir of the gothic cathedral to Halberstadt. The collections of the Gleimhaus go back to Gleim's estate.

The Halberstadt tramway network (German: Straßenbahnnetz Halberstadt) is a network of tramways forming part of the public transport system in Halberstadt, a city in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.Opened in 1887, the network has been operated since 1992 by Halberstädter Verkehrs-GmbH (HVG).
