De Hoelmroute voert door de lage, binnendijkse Hoelmerkoog met zijn groene weilanden en oude eendenkooi. Bij de Westeren Oosterklief (‘klief’ is Wierings voor klif ) gaat de wandeling omhoog. Hier moeten tussen 850 en 900 Vikingen gewoond hebben, getuige de opgegraven zilverschatten. Ook loop je over een oude wierdijk: de Hoelmerdijk. The Hoelmroute leads through the low, inner dike Hoelmerkoog with its green meadows and old Eendenkooi. At the Westeren Ooster klief (' Klief ' is whose front cliff) The walk goes up.
