The district capital is the city of Braga, and it is bordered by the district of Viana do Castelo in the north, Vila Real in the east, Spain (Galicia) in the northeast and Porto in the south.

Battle of Braga (1809)

The Battle of Braga or Battle of Póvoa de Lanhoso or Battle of Carvalho d'Este (20 March 1809) saw an Imperial French corps led by Marshal Nicolas Soult attack a Portuguese army commanded by Baron Christian Adolph Friedrich von Eben. Soult's professional soldiers slaughtered large numbers of their opponents, who were mostly badly disciplined and poorly armed militia.

The D. Diogo de Sousa Museum is located in Braga, Portugal.The Museum was founded in 1918 and moved to the new house in 2007 June 29. The Museum is housed in a specially designed building in the center of what was the Roman City of Bracara Augusta. Its collection mostly comprises items from excavations that took place in Braga with a vast chronological and cultural period, from the Palaeolithic to the Middle Ages.
