South 24 Parganas (Pron: pɔrɡɔnɔs) (abv. 24 PGS(S)) or sometimes South Twenty Four Parganas is a district in the Indian State of West Bengal, headquartered in Alipore. It is the largest district of West Bengal state by area and second largest by population. It is the sixth most populous district in India (out of 640).

The Alipore Jail or Alipore Central Jail, also known as Presidency Correctional Home, is a prison in Alipore, Kolkata, where political prisoners were kept under British rule, among them Subhas Chandra Bose. It is still in operation. It also houses the Alipore Jail Press.
