Carlow Castle (Irish: Caisleán Cheatharlach) is located near to the River Barrow in County Carlow, Ireland. It was built between 1207 and 1213, and is a National Monument of Ireland.

Carlow (; Irish: Ceatharlach) is the county town of County Carlow, in the south-east of Ireland, 84 km (52 mi) from Dublin. At the 2016 census, it had a combined urban and rural population of 24,272.The River Barrow flows through the town, and forms the historic boundary between counties Laois and Carlow.

The Battle of Carlow took place in Carlow town, Ireland on 25 May 1798 when Carlow rebels rose in support of the 1798 rebellion which had begun the day before in County Kildare. The United Irishmen organisation in Carlow led by a young brogue-maker named Mick Heydon who had taken over the leadership following the arrest of the previous leader, Peter Ivers, who was arrested with several other leading United Irishmen at Oliver Bond's house in March of that year, had assembled on the night of the 24th and set off at dawn to attack the county town.

The Cathedral of the Assumption is both the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin and the parish church for the Cathedral parish. Located in Carlow town, the cathedral was dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1833. It is known for its beautifully detailed 151 ft (46 m) spire which is one of the highest points in the town.

Carlow railway station serves the town of Carlow in County Carlow.It is a station on the Dublin to Waterford intercity route. The station has two platforms. The far-side platform is only used when two trains are in the station at once, as it is not accessible other than by footbridge. The station has a café.

Carlow Vocational School is a second-level educational establishment in Carlow, Ireland. It can trace its origins back to the nineteenth century when classes commenced at various locations in the town under the Technical Instruction Act of 1898. Some years later, in 1918, the celebrated playwright, George Bernard Shaw donated the Assembly Rooms to the people of Carlow for the promotion of technical education.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin (; Irish: Deoise Chill Dara agus Leithghlinn) is a Roman Catholic diocese in eastern Ireland. It is one of six suffragan dioceses in the ecclesiastical province of Dublin and is subject to the Archdiocese of Dublin. On 7 May 2013, the Most Reverend Denis Nulty was appointed bishop-elect of the diocese.

Carlow College,St Patrick's is a liberal arts college located in Carlow, Ireland. The college is the second oldest third level institution in Ireland have been founded in 1782 by James Keefe, then Roman Catholic Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, and his co-adjutor bishop Daniel Delany,
