1990 Guangzhou Baiyun airport collisions

On October 2nd 1990, a hijacked Boeing 737, operating Xiamen Airlines Flight 8301, collided with two other aircraft on the runways of the old Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, while attempting to land. The hijacked aircraft struck a parked China Southwest Airlines Flight 2402 first, inflicting only minor damage, but then collided with China Southern Airlines Flight 2812, a Boeing 757 waiting to take off, flipping onto its back.

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport , formerly known as Canton Civil Airport (White Cloud) or Pai Yuen Airport was the main airport in Guangzhou, China, until August 5, 2004, when it was replaced by the identically newly opened airport of the same name, some 25 kilometres (16 mi) to the north. Opened in 1932, "Baiyun" means "white clouds" in Chinese, while the airport took its name from the adjacent Baiyun Mountain.

CAAC Flight 2311

CAAC Flight 2311 was a scheduled passenger flight from Changsha Datuopu Airport, in Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province, China, to the former Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. On 24 December 1982 it was flown by an Ilyushin Il-18B (registered in China as B-202). After landing at Baiyun Airport, a fire in the cabin produced toxic smoke whereupon the crew stopped the aircraft on the runway and evacuated the passengers.
