Steady paths until the mountain road, steep hills still on tracks, when you reach mile 3 it’s all trail and off road leading through very muddy wet fields, small stream and uneven services. Awesome views and very nice walk run indeed

Tonyrefail

Tonyrefail is a village and community in the Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough, South Wales, at the head of the River Ely,. It is situated 4 miles (6.4 km) northwest of Llantrisant, around 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from Trebanog and around 2 miles (3.2 km) from Williamstown. Tonyrefail was a rural hamlet and evolved into an industrial village during the second half of the 19th century, when coal and steel became synonymous with the South Wales Valleys.

The school was part of a cluster of 6 primary schools: Cwmlai, Tonyrefail, Tref-y-Rhyg, Williamstown, Hendreforgan and Abercerdin.Tonyrefail School was part of the Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council 21st Century Schools Reorganisation, which will take a radically different approach to education in the area, by sharing both primary and secondary sector resources.

Penychen

Penychen was a possible minor kingdom of early medieval Wales and later a cantref of the Kingdom of Morgannwg. Penychen was one of three cantrefs that made up the kingdom of Glywysing lying between the rivers Taff and Thaw, the other two being Gwynllwg and Gorfynydd. The cantrefi were created on the death of Glywys (c.480 AD), the first king of Glywysing, when the kingdom was divided between three of his sons, Pawl, Gwynllyw and Mechwyn.
