Amicalola Falls State Park is located off Hwy 52 between Dahlonega and Ellijay. This roughly two mile route highlights Amicalola creek and falls as well as the surrounding forest. The route is mostly gravel and dirt trails with a roughly half mile section of paved trail. The first half of the route has moderate elevation gain. There are bathrooms and water fountains at the visitors center at the beginning of the route. There is several resting spots with views and benches on the way up the paved section of trail. Wear a good sturdy hiking shoe.
The route begins just outside the visitor center on the Spring Creek Trail. You will follow it for about a half a mile to the base of Falls Trail where the trail changes from dirt/gravel to pavement. At this point the trail starts ascending to the base of the falls. In approximately half of a mile you will reach the base of the falls viewing bridge. Keep going straight across the bridge on the recycled tire trail.From the end of the trail you will pick up the Laurel Trail heading down through the forest for the final 3/4 of a mile.This route is suitable to kids and dogs on leashes but not to wheelchairs or strollers.
