Patuxent Research Refuge, North Tract Introduction

Patuxent Research Refuge, North Tract is a 5.2 mile (12,000-step) route located near Laurel, Maryland, USA. This route has an elevation gain of about 226.3 ft and is rated as easy. Find the best walking trails near you in Pacer App.
This particular hike is a very easy trail on old roads. So the forest is beside you, you aren't IN the forest. But it's mostly flat and a pleasant five miles. I think the trails that aren't old road are much prettier. We did a little bit of the Forest Loop at the end and it was stunning. You have to register and sign a waiver because this area used to be part of Fort Mead and there MAY be unexploded ordinance off trail. So stay on trail!
