Many people walk every day in Tyler State Park! There are various trails and routes that you can take whether you want paved or unpaid surfaces. I usually go to the back entrance, off Newtown – Richboro Road. The parking lot is not very crowded and you won’t be starting your walk off where most of the activity is in the central part of the park.
For the first half of this walk, it is downhill and very relaxing. You come up onto the damn in the main part of the park after about 20 minutes or so of walking at about a 15 pace. There is one short hill for a challenging purposes during the first part of this walk. But it’s not too long!
At the dam you can stop for water if you didn’t bring your own, and they have a restroom facilities there as well.
To continue your walk go past the dam and keep going straight up until you reach a perpendicular pathway. A nice memorial bench sits there if you wish to take a rest before the challenging hill that will provide you with a lot of sweating and exercise. I don’t know exactly how long this hill is, but it takes me about 15 to 20 minutes at least to get up at the top. The trail ends and you will walk past a few homes on a residential street.
Then you’ll take a left and immediately start going down past the backs of the homes as if it were a little alleyway. The path winds around a couple of turns and two bridges to return to the parking area.
All in all, the challenges on this route are evenly spaced, thus allowing for a great workout no matter if your goal is distance or speed. Have a great day getting out there!
