When I stay still for longer than an hour, I flinch with the searing pain that goes through my feet on getting up-such is the escalating state of my fasciitis plantaris condition, so I avoid that agony by regular mobility, with the opportunity cost to my work pile; I am genuinely passionate about what I do so it’s a heavy compromise for me.
On my evening stroll through the “out-of-sight” housing estates of Oxgangs & Colinton, as always my sight catches the extreme contrast between the socio-economic divide, from the way people carry themselves, right to the cleanliness of the streets. But the immediate conspicuous contrast between these two classes of the posh & working / social class are the architecture design of the houses and the presence / absence of people in the neighbourhood; in the affluent areas, you are enveloped in complete silence and hardly any sigh of human presence as you walk carefully along their clean, perfectly manicured, tree-lined streets. In stark contrast, on the other side where cloned boxy-looking or vertically lined flats are weighed with visible satellite dishes, the streets are lively with signs of life of neighbours chatting, children playing, teens hanging about in cliques.....and I appreciate this feature of connected living & camaraderie, but still I instinctively find myself hurrying along to get away, not exactly feeling at ease; why do you feel fearful, I ask myself? Am I reacting to stereotype or is my sense of unease justified in anyway?
