Jardim Municipal de Katerini

As part of the persecution of the Greek population in the Ottoman Empire (between 1914 and 1923), many of the people living there had to leave their homes and move abroad or to Greece. This affected in particular the Greeks from Asia Minor and the Pontos Greeks living in the Black Sea region. Many refugees found a new home in Macedonia, and some of them reached Pieria.

The Folklore Museum of Katerini was set up by the Pieria Pontic Association, and is housed in a building owned by the Association in the centre of Katerini, Macedonia, Greece, near the Municipal Park. It opened in 1990, following efforts to collect folklore material still in the possession of refugee families from the Pontos who had settled in the Pieria region.
