Edale is a village and civil parish in the Peak District, Derbyshire, England, whose population was 353 at the 2011 Census. Edale, with anarea of 7,030 acres (2,840 ha),is in the Borough of High Peak.Edale is best known to walkers as the start (or southern end) of the Pennine Way, and to less ambitious walkers as a starting point for evening or day walks, accessible by public transport from Sheffield or Manchester and with two pubs serving real ale and food.

Edale railway station

Edale railway station serves the rural village of Edale in the Derbyshire Peak District, in England. It was opened in 1894 on the Midland Railway's Dore and Chinley line (now the Hope Valley Line), 20 miles (32 km) west of Sheffield and 22 miles (35 km) east of Manchester Piccadilly.It became an unstaffed halt in 1969.

Great Ridge

Great Ridge is a ridge separating the vales of Edale and Castleton in Derbyshire, England. It extends for approximately 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) from Mam Tor at the western end of the ridge to Lose Hill at the eastern end, the lowest point being Hollins Cross.A path runs along the length of the ridge, and is roughly paved to prevent erosion caused by the large number of visitors.

Hollins Cross lies between Mam Tor and Lose Hill on the Great Ridge that separates Castleton and Edale in Derbyshire, England.Hollins Cross is the lowest point on the ridge and is therefore a popular route taken by walkers wishing either to cross from one side to the other, or to start a walk along the ridge.

Mam Tor

Mam Tor is a 517 m (1,696 ft) hill near Castleton in the High Peak of Derbyshire, England. Its name means "mother hill", so called because frequent landslips on its eastern face have resulted in a multitude of "mini-hills" beneath it. These landslips, which are caused by unstable lower layers of shale, also give the hill its alternative name of Shivering Mountain.
