Leave your car on the waste ground across the street from The Bell Pub, Woodham Walter.
The only restroom facility on this walk is at the Pub, so stop in for a pre-walk snack and rest stop. The pub is extremely old; dated from 1563, and It’s a very beautiful oak beamed building that is full of character. We’ve been told the food at The Bell is very good.
This lovely 5.5 mile (approx) walk is available on the Essex Walks - www.essexwalks.com website but be warned, we found the instructions a bit confusing and dated in a couple of places. However, our attention to the instructions and our GPS paid off and we made our way with only a few slight adjustments.
This is a lovely walk through the quiet Essex countryside which features varied terrain that includes arable fields, horse paddocks, a bridleway, woodland, a Nature Reserve, a few small creeks, a trail next to The Warren golf club and then a stop at the beautiful St. Michael’s Church before heading back down the road a short way to the parking area.
The path in some areas was a bit muddy and there were a few little hills up and down in the nature reserve that got our attention.
Good hiking shoes are highly recommended.
All in all, a very enjoyable and interesting walk. We will definitely be enjoying this hike again.
