Burnet Park is an 88 acre community park located on Syracuse’s west side, in the Tipperary Hill district. There are 3 park entrances: one at the intersection of South Avery Ave, Salisbury Rd and Coleridge Ave, the second at Coleridge Ave and Burnet Park Dr, and the third on Grand Ave. This is a great alternative for those who enjoy “Lights on the Lake”. It is free, and little to no traffic. The park is decorated with colored lights strung in the trees, snowman, reindeer, penguins, and Christmas trees hung on trees, bldgs are lit up, and a baseball backstop warmly greets you with Happy Holidays. It makes for a fun stroll, walk or run. The park features a swimming pool, Rosamond Gifford Zoo, an Arts and Crafts Bldg, a golf course, athletic fields and courts, a playground, a picnic area, an outdoor workout circuit, and the Monday Mile Trail, where you can keep track of your walking or running mileage on the park's marked loop. This is a great place to run/walk on pavement, to walk your dog, and for parents with children or strollers, although there are hills. There is a sledding hill, but at the time of my walk it was closed. One way traffic is allowed at 5mph on most of the roads throughout the park, so watch for vehicles.
