This short walk is to the furthest point west on Oahu approaching from the Wai’anae leeward side. It is normally very dry and hot. Occasionally, if there were multiple days of rain in the West, the dirt 4WD road will fill up into a muddy traverse. Regardless, it is a great running trail from which you can give yourself more challenge if you take the side trails up and down the berms or cliffs to the electric poles.
At low tide, there are many tide pools to cool off in; just watch out for the monk seals!
At the end of the road, there is a Laysan Albatross bird sanctuary enclosure. No animals permitted in this area. The birds come here to winter. They are huge!
Also at the cliff end facing the enclosure there is a small trail up the cliff face to several bunkers. There is one bunker that you can slide into but it is not advised if not prepared. Views from the top include both the West and North facing shores, and on a clear day it is visible for miles.
